CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Monday night, January 13, the gymnasium at Rossview Middle erupted into chants of ‘undefeated’ as the Rossview Middles School Varsity Boys Basketball team secured their 15th and final win of the season.
Their victory against Northeast secured the team’s perfect season with a 70-53 final score.
The win marks a special moment for Rossview, who held a short ceremony to thank the team for their hard work and show their Hawks pride.
“They have been playing together for three years,” said Mrs. Taragant, the team’s bookkeeper. “They’re friends off the court. They play hard and they never give up.”
The boys from Northeast started the game strong with an 11-5 lead, but strong defense and consistent three-point shots helped to turn the tide in Rossview’s favor.
Northeast’s Number 12, Taetum Connley rang the half time bell with an impressive half-court shot. The team fought hard and kept Rossview on their toes throughout the game.
Rossview Coach Dewey Edwards credited his team’s success with a focus on consistent shooting and, more importantly, a strong emphasis on teamwork.
“All of my boys are friends, and I think that’s important,” said Edwards. “When you’re all friends and you hang out together and you do things together, that’s what make the difference when you play. You don’t have individuals, but you have 12, 13 guys that are one and the same. That’s how you win.”
Boys Varsity was not alone in their success last night. Rossview’s JV Boys took the game into overtime for a 34-30 victory. Following them was an explosive 44-8 win for the Varsity Girls.
