CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Rossview Band Program performed at the Middle Tennessee Band and Orchestra Concert Festival on March 22, 2018.
Students from both the middle school band and high school band spent this semester working on musical works that were performed in front of judges from around the nation. They also had to perform a piece they had never seen before and were judged on their ability to sight read the piece. This requires a high level of musicianship from the students.
The middle school’s symphonic band (a group of 7th and 8th grade students who auditioned to be a part of a special after school group) received a rating of superior (this is the highest and best rating you can achieve) on their stage performance and a rating of superior in the sight-reading room. This rating of superior qualifies the middle school program for the Tennessee State Educator Associations state concert festival at the end of April at Austin Peay State University. Only 32 bands are accepted each year to perform at the state level and you must receive a superior rating on stage and in sight reading.

The high school’s Wind Ensemble received a superior on stage and in sight reading. This also qualifies them for the state concert festival in April. This performance also earned the high school program the distinguished Tennessee Band Master’s Sweepstakes award.
The Tennessee Bandmasters Association presents the Sweepstakes Award to TBA members whose bands have met the following criteria during the previous school year:
High School Bands: A Superior rating is required in Marching, Concert, and Sight-reading. Band programs with more than one performing ensemble must receive superior ratings for the top ensemble in order to be eligible for the Sweepstakes Award.
This year Tennessee Bandmaster’s Association will award to only 31 schools in the state. The Rossview band program will receive the award in the spring of 2019.
