CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood Cobras took a short trip down Rossview Road for a district semi-final matchup with the Rossview Hawks. Rossview got on the board first, and despite a late goal from Kirkwood, three unanswered goals were too much for the Cobras to overcome, with the Hawks winning 3-1. This ended Kirkwood’s season, and Rossview advanced to the district championship tomorrow.
Neither team had much going early, but midway through the first half, freshman forward Casey Steele put one in the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage, one that stood till the half.

Rossview head coach Connie Castleman liked the intensity she saw in an elimination game.
“We came out with intensity,” said Castleman. “We knew it was a win-or-go-home situation, and there was no time for little mistakes. We had a good showing tonight.”
Eva Greenwald and Kailei Kaneshiro both netted goals for the Hawks in the second half to pull ahead to a 3-0 lead, and despite the Cobras forcing an own goal, they fell short, 3-1.
Kirkwood head coach Kelley Guth would’ve wanted a different result, but thought her team fought extremely hard.
“It was a good game of soccer overall,” said Guth. “They played good team soccer, and we battled as hard as we could. We just couldn’t find the back of the net, and hats off to them; I’m excited to see how far that team advances. On to next season.”
Now, the Hawks have a rematch with their rival and travel to Clarksville High on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for the district championship. Clarksville beat them 2-0 earlier this year, and have revenge on their mind.
