CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Robert Lewis has announced his candidacy for Montgomery County Commissioner in District 7. He previously served as interim commissioner for the district for 18 months.
Lewis was born and raised in the Woodlawn community and attended Woodlawn Elementary School. He graduated from Burt High School and received his Associate’s degree from the University of Texas Tech. He also earned his Bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University.
Lewis served more than 24 years in the military and retired with the rank of Sergeant Major.
He also retired from Trane Company in Clarksville and ran a small BBQ business in the district. Lewis is an active member of his church, serving as deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, usher, and chorus member.
“Being born and reared in the district, I am fully aware of the value of placed on the way of life in the district,” Lewis said in a press release. “As county commissioner I will fight to preserve that way of life. I will fight for our share of the county’s revenue to maintain roads, improve our schools, parks, and essential services.”
In a release, Lewis also said he is calling for a fire station in the Dotsonville area, a community center in Woodlawn, and a solution to the landfill odor problem.
