CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A student at Richview Middle School was arrested Wednesday for posting a threat on social media.
The student has been charged with threat of mass violence on school property and false report, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sandra Brandon.
“Please know school safety is a top priority, and we thoroughly investigate every rumor and threat,” Brandon said, adding that there was additional law enforcement at Richview Wednesday morning.
“We would like to remind parents and students, effective July 1, 2021, threats of violence, even non-credible threats of violence, on school property is a chargeable offense.”
This is the eighth CMCSS student charged this year with making threats.
Principal Lisa Baker said rumors spread that weapons were found and discharged. “Those rumors are false,” she said in a message to parents.
“We have been made aware of new social media posts recently made that appear to be a copycat attempt. Please know that we take every threat seriously, and we are working with law enforcement to investigate the posts.
“We thank all our families who have reinforced with their children the seriousness of making threats,” Baker said. “Parents, please continue to partner with us by talking to your children about online safety, appropriate behaviors, and consequences for criminal behaviors.
“Finally, for our entire community, I want to reiterate the importance of immediately reporting any school safety concern to our SRO, a teacher, administrator, or other trusted adult and not sharing rumors of school violence at school, on social media, or anywhere.”
The social media threat was investigated by SROs, school administration, the MCSO Criminal Investigations Division, Clarksville Police and the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security.
