CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Richview Middle School Cowboys hosted the Antioch Bears in a win or go home sectional quarterfinal on Monday. The Cowboys got out in front early, building a 16-point lead before Antioch ever scored, and the Cowboys cruised to a 44-11 victory, advancing to the sectional semifinals, and placing them two wins away from the state tournament.

Richview started off with a physical press defense, which caused several turnovers to start the game. By the time Antioch made it across the half court line, it was 10-0.

Cowboys head coach Josh Buchholz said his squad’s defense has created for them all year. “We wanted to generate offense through our defense early in the game,” said Buchholz. “We were able to generate turnovers, and when we do that, we can score very quickly. We wanted to make sure our intensity didn’t waver.”

Guard Eli Youngs collected steal after steal, and fed forward Harrison Smith in the paint, who led all scorers with 18. The starters got to sit the second half, and the Cowboys ended the Bears’ season.

While it’s a huge win, Buchholz wants to make sure his guys understand that the mission stays the same.

“From this point forward, the level of basketball keeps going up every step we take,” said Buchholz. “We want to stay humble and hungry, and continue to play to the best of our abilities. We always talk about, we’re not playing our opponent, we’re playing ourselves, and we’re going to play to our standard regardless of the opponent.”
