CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Richview Middle School got revenge for its only loss of the season, defeating Kirkwood Middle 15-8 Wednesday for its fourth straight CMCSS football district title.
The two teams left little doubt they were the best middle school teams in the area, dominating their opponents throughout the regular season. Kirkwood entered the championship game undefeated at 7-0, while Richview came in at 6-1. Ultimately, it was the Cowboys’ earlier loss to the Cobras that provided extra motivation.

Player of the Game: Alex Hines
Richview quarterback Alex Hines summed up what the victory meant to the Cowboys.
“My O-line did good at blocking, and my receivers were catching,” Hines told Clarksville Now. “Because we had lost to them earlier in the season, it really mattered to us.”
Hines has been instrumental to the Cowboys’ success over the last three seasons. As an eighth grader, he became Richview’s all-time single-season passing leader, surpassing 1,000 yards over seven games. He added to that total in the championship game while delivering another big moment in his time with the Cowboys.
Trailing by one with just five minutes remaining, Hines threw the game-winning touchdown before adding the two-point conversion himself. Kirkwood had one more opportunity to answer, but time ran out on the Cobras’ final drive.
Cowboys dominating local middle school football
Richview head coach Joshua Richards credited Hines for much of the Cowboys’ success.
“He’s been incredible. He broke the school record for passing yards in a season. He went over 1,000 for the year last week,” Richards said. “He’s just been on point all season. It’s incredible to see his development over the last three years.”

The win was special for more than just the revenge factor. Richview’s fourth straight district championship further cemented the Cowboys as one of the area’s top middle school football programs.
Richards said the team will enjoy the championship before turning its attention toward next season. “We’re going to enjoy this tonight. We’re going to have our banquet and really enjoy the banquet. Then we start working on next year after that. So, looking forward to the future.”
