CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Richview Middle School Cowboys traveled to Stewarts Creek High School for the TMSAA final four, and a matchup with the Bearden Bulldogs. Bearden led for two and a half quarters, but a late 13-0 run powered the Cowboys to a 46-38 win and the right to play for a state championship tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Rockvale High School. They’ll play the winner of Page and Elmore Park.
Early on, the Cowboys couldn’t seem to get much going and trailed by three at the halftime break. However, even with some questionable calls and shots not falling, Richview stayed within striking distance, and used a 13-0 run between the end of the third and start of the fourth quarter to pull away.
“This team is resilient,” said Cowboys head coach Josh Buchholz. “We haven’t had too many games where we had to battle back, but we fought through adversity. I have a group that really loves each other and plays hard for each other. We had to get out of that hole together, and once we got the momentum, we carried it throughout the game.”
Richview’s Jacquise Howie led the Cowboys with 14 points down low, and Aree Hines iced the game with a few free throws down the stretch. Now, Richview will have an opportunity to play for the first middle school state championship in Clarksville history.
“It’s a great opportunity, and we get to play for the city,” said Buchholz. “At this point we’re not just playing for Richview we’re playing for the city of Clarksville. We love to play together, and we’re glad we get one more opportunity to go out there and play, with the city of Clarksville all behind us.”
