FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After an investigation into reports of shots fired at Fort Campbell on Monday morning, the loud sound was determined to be a vehicle backfiring.
According to a news release from Fort Campbell Public Affairs Director Brendalyn Carpenter-Player, Military Police responded to the reports near the Woodlands and Gardner Hills areas at about 9:40 a.m.
Nearby residences were evacuated while Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to ensure resident safety, the news release said.
The investigation determined that the sounds came from a vehicle backfiring. No weapons were fired and there is no threat to the installation, Carpenter-Player said. The incident was over in about 90 minutes.
