CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery County was recently ranked the fifth-fastest-growing county in Tennessee by Stacker.
The report used U.S. Census Bureau data to rank the top 30 Tennessee counties by population growth from 2010-19, based on five-year estimates. Montgomery County ranked fifth, ahead of Hamilton and behind Knox.
“Honestly, I can’t believe we weren’t ranked No. 1,” said County Mayor Jim Durrett. “We’re the best county to live in in the state of Tennessee, and we’ll probably get to No. 1 before it’s over.”
According to Stacker’s analysis, Montgomery County grew in population by 36,577 people during that period, a 22.4% increase.
Slacker placed Montgomery County No. 75 among U.S. counties for population growth by percentage.
Topping Stacker’s ranking is Davidson County, which saw an increase of 74,604 people, or +12.2%. This places Davidson above Montgomery in total number of new people, but over 10% lower in growth rate.
Stacker’s top five counties for growth from 2010-19, with their principal city, growth and rate of growth, are as follows:
- Davidson County (Nashville): +74,604 (+12.2%)
- Rutherford County (Murfreesboro): +65,298 (+26.1%)
- Williamson County (Franklin): +51,129 (+29.3%)
- Knox County (Knoxville): +37,356 (+8.8%)
- Montgomery County (Clarksville): +36,577 (+22.4%)
