CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Multiple media outlets are reporting that Austin Peay State University (APSU) will name its new head basketball coach this week.

NewsChannel 5 reports that APSU is finalizing a deal with South Carolina associate head coach Matt Figger, citing a source close to the negotiations.

Sources would not confirm or deny the information. Reports say the university will likely make an official announcement Thursday.

Gary Parrish of CBS tweeted this week that Figger is “in advanced talks” to become the new head coach.

Figger’s current team, the South Carolina Gamecocks, just made it to the Final Four and will face Gonzaga in a national semifinal game this Saturday.

APSU announced the retirement of longtime head basketball Coach Dave Loos last month.

In his 27 years at Austin Peay, Loos won four conference tournament titles, and is the only coach to win OVC Coach of the Year honors five times. He is the fourth-longest tenured coach in Division I.
