CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The American Red Cross asks everyone to help ‘Sound the Alarm’ in Clarksville and be part of the nationwide Red Cross effort to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries from home fires.
The Red Cross is seeking adult volunteers to join the Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the Belle Glade Mobile Home Community on Robert Ave. A brief training will kick off the morning, followed by groups of people going door-to-door to install alarms and provide safety information.
“Home fires are the biggest disaster threat we face, killing seven people in this country every day,” said Philip Barletto, Disaster Program Manager of the Tennessee River Red Cross. “Here in the TN River Chapter area, we assisted nearly 200 families after disasters since last July, many of those being home fires. Please help us Sound the Alarm by volunteering to install smoke alarms in your community, making a financial contribution, or taking steps to protect your own family from home fires.”

As of May 31, 2018 the Red Cross and its partners across the country have saved at least 444 lives through the Home Fire Campaign; reached over 1.1 million through youth preparedness programs, and installed 1.3 million free smoke alarms.
The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year, the majority of which are home fires. Home fires represent a significant threat to communities, which is why the Red Cross launched the nationwide Home Fire Campaign and rallied an army of volunteers, donors, and partners to canvass high-risk neighborhoods, install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and help families create escape plans.
