CLARKSVILLE, TN − The American Red Cross Tennessee River Chapter and Clarksville Fire Rescue recently joined forces to conduct their 10th annual “Sound the Alarm” home fire safety event, significantly boosting fire preparedness in the Cunningham Lane area of Clarksville.
In a remarkable display of community spirit, 121 volunteers—including City Mayor Joe Pitts, Clarksville firefighters and Austin Peay State University baseball and softball teams—reached out to 565 individuals and successfully installed 195 free smoke alarms while sharing critical fire safety information.
“The overwhelming support for our ‘Sound the Alarm’ initiative has been truly remarkable,” said LoriAnn Tinajero, executive director of the Tennessee River Chapter. “The dedication shown today will undoubtedly have a long-lasting impact, potentially saving numerous lives and protecting our neighbors.”
This local effort is part of the national American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save at least 2,206 lives nationwide since its launch in October 2014. In the 12 counties and Fort Campbell area served by the Tennessee River Chapter, the campaign has saved 9 lives to date.
Key achievements of the Tennessee River Chapter and local partners since 2016 include the installation of 4,756 free smoke alarms
Fire Chief Jobe Moore of Clarksville Fire Rescue added, “Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half. Today’s efforts have made a significant contribution to the safety of our community.”
The event concluded with a celebratory lunch for volunteers, generously provided by community partners Mission BBQ, Texas Roadhouse and Dodge’s.
Residents who missed this event can still receive free smoke alarm installations by visiting SoundTheAlarm.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. The website also provides opportunities to volunteer or donate to support the Red Cross in its mission to prepare for, respond to and recover from home fires.
