CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Around 45 people gathered at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library Tuesday evening for a public meeting on possible changes to the lanes of traffic on Madison St.
In the three lanes between 10th St. and Pageant Lane, and at different times, traffic travels into town in the morning and out of town in the afternoon. After studying the traffic situation in the area and looking at crash history, officials agree a safer and improved flow of traffic is needed.
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting but a news release was issued with comments from the mayor. McMillan said the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is planning to pave the three lane section of Madison St.
In the statement McMillan said TDOT has asked the city to evaluate any possible changes to the area before it paved and restriped the roadway. According to TDOT that work is scheduled to take place sometime in the spring of 2017.
Chris Cowan, Traffic Engineer with the Clarksville Street Department, emphasized that no decisions have been made yet on what to do with the street and they want to hear from motorists and from residents who live in the area before any changes are made.
Comment forms were handed out at the meeting and over the next two weeks local residents can make their comments and share their concerns on the city’s website, www.cityofclarksville.com.
