CLARKSVILLE, TN – Readers of all ages will explore the animal kingdom this summer as the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library presents “Tails and Tales” as its summer reading program theme.

Educational activities for all ages include songs, games, crafts, art projects, science and engineering experiments and more. This year’s summer reading program will include hybrid offerings and in-person story times, among other activities.

New to this year’s program are two weekly events at the Downtown Commons on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays, the Commons will host an in-person story time at 10 a.m.

Fridays at 10 a.m. “edutainers”, such as Brad Reynolds and his “Real Science program” and ventriloquist Gene Cordova, will educate and entertain children. Magician Russ Nowack serves as first in the line-up. In the event of rain, the special Friday performances will be live-streamed to the public.

“Last year’s summer program was completely virtual, so we are excited to finally have in-person programming again,” said library director Martha Hendricks. “This will be a great time for all ages to visit their library again and share in the adventure that is our summer reading program. We are limiting attendance for programs – our staff has put a lot of thought in to how best to both present some in-person programming and provide a way for all to feel safe.

“For this reason, for example, there will be shorter length story times in the large meeting room at the library that will rotate three times an hour to accommodate those who would like to attend. At the Commons, and in our venue at the library, we will have markers to indicate where family pods can sit together as they enjoy programming with spacing provided.”

The 2021 summer reading program is open to all ages, and features prize drawings, story times, a reading club, DIYs, trivia and more. Registration for “Tails and Tales” is now open on the library’s website, mcgtn.org/publiclibrary.

All programs provided by the public library are free of charge.
