CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is launching a new literacy program called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
The program encourages parents and caregivers to read books to their newborn, infant, and/or toddler, with the goal of reading 1,000 books to the child before they start kindergarten, according to a news release.
For every 100 books, that is read to the child, parents and their kids can earn a virtual badge, and visit the library to receive a certificate and sticker.
This program is free, and for children under five years old. In order to participate in the challenge, parents and caregivers will need to register on Beanstack, create an account, and log their readings. The web address to register is here.
“We hope this will be a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills and that the children who participate become confident readers,” said Gracie Armstrong, Youth Services and Outreach Supervisor in the news release.
In addition to the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, the library will release a series of videos that will provide tips and advice to help littles ones on the path to becoming early readers and lifelong learners.
More information about the 1000 Books program and early literacy videos can be found on the library’s Facebook page or by calling 931-648-8826.
