NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A proposed bill by a Tennessee lawmaker would restore voting rights to certain convicted felons in the state.
The bill (SB0036) would enable a person who has been disqualified from exercising the right to vote due to a felony conviction to apply for restoration of voting rights.
Those who apply would have to provide proof of payment plans for court costs, restitution, or overdue child support.
The bill was introduced this month by Senator Brenda Gilmore (D-Nashville). If passed and signed into law, the bill would go into effect July 1, 2019.
