CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Three Clarksville-Montgomery County high school football teams have earned a trip to the postseason.
Two of those schools will hit the road and play their first-round matchups Friday, Nov. 6.
In the Class 6A Playoffs, Rossview (5-3) will travel to take on the undefeated Oakland Patriots (10-0).
The Hawks punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 21-14 win over Lebanon last week.
Rossview football coach Todd Hood and his group will face an uphill battle, as the Patriots’ smallest margin of victory in games played this season has been 16 points.
Oakland has steamrolled teams, averaging over 40 points per game.
Hawks running back Diivonta Phillips has carried the offensive load for Rossview this season. The standout junior finished the regular season with 818 rushing yards on 146 carries and six touchdowns on the ground.
Princeton commit Mark-Anthony Prescott will look to make his impact felt on defense in what could be the final game of his Hawk career.
Clarksville (4-4) also faces a tough test in their opening-round game against Munford (7-3).
This familiar showdown has been on display three of the past four postseasons.
In 2019, it was the Wildcats who came away with an upset win after downing the Panthers 29-28 on a game-winning field goal to pull out some late-game heroics.
The Munford coaching staff has likely preached redemption this week in practice, as the Panthers look to remove the sour taste left in their mouths from last year’s loss to Clarksville.
CHS will have to rely heavily on a number of younger players in order to get the job done on Friday.
Sophomore quarterback Davin Garinger, who has received a scholarship offer from the University of Kansas, will need to make some magic happen under center if the Wildcats look to advance to the second round of the playoffs and beyond.
Clarksville has captured three wins in a row, seemingly hitting its stride at the right time.
The third and final Clarksville team who made the postseason is the Northeast Eagles.
The Region 7-5A runner-ups received a first-round bye and will await the winner of Clarksville and Munford in the second round.
Both Clarksville and Rossview’s games will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
