CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A new era of Lady Wildcat hoops was ushered in Thursday, as Clarksville High girls basketball hosted Green Hill for their season opener.

In her high school debut, Clarksville freshman Imari Berry connected on a reverse layup to give her team a 61-60 victory right before the final buzzer sounded.

After falling behind 16-9 through one quarter of play, CHS clawed its way back to cut the deficit to just two points at halftime.

The Lady Wildcat senior duo of Erin Lackey and Sydney Weatherford combined for 28 points to help spark the comeback.

Down four points with less than a minute remaining, Clarksville was able to battle back and send the game into overtime before Berry’s eventual game-winning shot.

Berry finished the contest with 21 points.

Sydnee Richetto poured in 21 points, while Aubrey Blankenship added 16 points for Green Hill.

Clarksville (1-0) heads to Northwest Tuesday, Nov. 24 with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.

Wildcats overcome slow start to pick up decisive win

Clarksville boys basketball welcomed in Green Hill Thursday, looking to start their 2020-21 campaign off with a bang.

The Wildcats overcame a shaky start to later run away with a decisive 68-44 win over the Hawks.

Green Hill rattled off a 9-0 run to start the game before Wildcat senior Jaheim Berry got going from beyond the arc.

Reigning All-Area Player of the Year JJ Wheat was also able to speed up the tempo, resulting in numerous baskets in transition for Clarksville from the second quarter on.

The Hawks’ size was problematic for the Wildcats at times, but Clarksville’s speed was able to prevail in the end.

Berry led the Wildcats with 17 points followed by Wheat, who had 16 points.

Clarksville (1-0) will travel to take on Northwest Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

West Creek falls to Gallatin in season opener

West Creek girl’s basketball fell to Gallatin on the road Thursday 69-31 in their season opener.

Lady Wave sophomore Cialife Carter led all scorers with 17 points.

Alexis Parks had a team-high 16 points while Desiree Castaneda chipped in five points for the Lady Coyotes.

West Creek (0-1) will look to bounce back under first-year coach Aaron Keener when they host Cheatham County Central Monday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m.
