NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Nashville Predators signed their star defenseman Roman Josi to an eight-year contract extension Monday, Oct. 29.
The 29-year-old Josi would have been a restricted free agent after the 2019-20 season.
The lucrative deal is expected to be worth more than $9 million AAV per season, making him the third-highest paid defenseman in the NHL. The contract also reportedly features a full no-movement clause. The only other time one was handed out by the Predators was when Pekka Rinne signed a seven-year extension in 2011 and the first four years of the deal held such trade protection.
Josi recorded a career-high 61 points across 81 games in 2015-16.
In 574 career games, the Switzerland native has collected 361 points and currently has 13 points in 11 games this season.
Josi is now one of seven Predators who are signed through at least the 2023-24 season, joining Matt Duchene, Ryan Johansen, Viktor Arvidsson, Ryan Ellis, Colton Sissons and Kyle Turris.
