We are in a great market here in Clarksville and there are Open House signs everywhere in town!
There are usually 2 different types of open houses, one being a Public Open House where neighbors, passers by and anyone out looking can just stop in and look around your home. The other popular one is an Agent Open House that is hosted by your agent and they invite all the other agents in town on one certain day during a certain time period.
As agents we are trained on how to safely conduct public open houses but as humans it is impossible to be in every room with every person that comes through the door, especially if there are several large groups.
Do yourself and your agent a favor and think about these tips before holding an open house.
1. Put your personal mail, bills, check books, bank statements, etc. in a secure location.
2. Lock up your valuable jewelry or antiques.
3. Don’t put valuables in your dresser drawer where thieves might look.
4. Remove smartphones, iPads and laptops.
5. Turn your computer completely off and lock them with a passcode.
6. Don’t leave passwords in an obvious place.
7. Lock up or take your prescription medications with you.
8. Extra house keys, car keys and remotes should all be secured in a safe place.
9. Ask your agent to have guest sign in. * Just a side note, this is something that a lot of people do not like to do as they feel like the agent will contact them after the open house. If that is the case, then the agent can just jot down the names given.
10. If there are photos in the house that may show a job position that you don’t want everyone aware of then please take them down ahead of time.
If you work together with your agent to secure your belongings you are bound to have a safe open house!
