CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Tres Wittum, a Republican candidate for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, and Assistant Coach Trey Campbell will host a “Friday Night Lights for Faith” gathering ahead of the Montgomery Central vs. Northwest High School football game tonight, Sept. 12.
The event is a response to President Donald Trump’s national call to prayer, according to a press release from Wittum’s campaign. It’s also a show of support for Campbell, an assistant coach and SRO at Northwest High who has been the center of a controversy over proselytizing at football games. Attendees are encouraged to bring their Bibles.
“President Trump asked us to pray for our nation. Coach Campbell showed us what it looks like to stand for faith, even when it’s hard,” Wittum said in the release. “This isn’t a protest; it’s an answer. We’re gathering to pray for our schools, our students, and our country, and to show that in Tennessee, we are not afraid to stand on the word of God.”
As part of this event, Wittum and Campbell will hand-deliver God Bless the USA Bibles (while supplies last) to those attending, the release said.
The event will be at the Montgomery Central High School campus, in the tailgate area, 3955 Highway 48, Cunningham, 5-6:30 p.m.
