CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – As roads clear of snow the next hazards are potholes, which have opened up by the hundreds on roads all over the mid-state.

The responsibility for fixing the holes falls on separate departments depending on whether the damage is on a city, county or state road, and there is no quick fix.

TDOT says the patching operations now underway are only temporary until spring. In the meantime, drivers should keep a close watch of road conditions to avoid costly damage.

One detail that makes that a challenge is damaged areas are still covered by snow or water, making it difficult to distinguish a wet spot from a deep hole.
