CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Starting this week, a portion of Lafayette Road will be closed to one lane during daylight hours to establish a new traffic pattern.

Montgomery County spokesperson Michelle Hueffmeier said Lafayette Road will be temporarily closed to one lane during the daylight hours of approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This temporary closure will take place within the existing construction zone, she said.

Hueffmeier said the operation is necessary to establish the new traffic pattern for the area, and contractor personnel will be conducting flagging operations as needed to keep traffic flowing in each direction.

“The existing lanes will be shifted to the north side of Lafayette, with two new traffic lanes, each 11 feet in width,” Hueffmeier said in a news release. “This will allow for construction to continue on the south side of Lafayette Road. Motorists are being asked to be alert to these new conditions and new traffic pattern.”

Construction is expected to continue through the summer and into the fall when the project is scheduled to be completed. Hueffmeier said motorists need to be aware that the speed limit through this construction zone has been reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. New regulatory signs have been installed reflecting this change in speed limit, she said.
