CLARKSVILLE, TN – A formal dedication ceremony will be held this weekend to rename a segment of Interstate 24 in honor of longtime Tennessee Secretary of State Riley Darnell. The event will take place this Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Exit 11 Park & Ride lot in Clarksville.

The Clarksville native was Secretary of State for 16 years from 1993 through 2009, serving under three governors. He also served as a member of the both the Tennessee House and Senate and became Senate Majority Leader.

Following Darnell’s death last year, Rep. Jason Hodges and Sen. Bill Powers passed a bill designating the segment of I-24 beginning at mile marker 8 and ending at mile marker 11 in Montgomery County as the Riley Darnell Memorial Highway.

Hodges said, “Riley Darnell is a true legend to our community. I’m proud to be part of honoring his legacy in this way.”
