CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– Business owner and local native Andy Porch announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the office of State Representative, 74th District, which includes all of Humphreys County and Houston County, and the western portion of Montgomery County.
A 1995 graduate of Waverly Central High School, Porch attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he majored in finance and earned his degree in business administration in 1999. Now a partner with Porch-Stribling-Webb Insurance Agency, he knows the value of a strong school system as well as the importance of supporting local small businesses.
Porch resides in Waverly with his wife, Kara, who is a teacher at Waverly Elementary School, and their two children, Kennedy (9), and Andrew (6). He and his family attend the Waverly United Methodist Church, where Porch has been a member since childhood and now serves as chairman of the church council.
“My family has deep roots in this district as we have been here since not long after the Civil War. I grew up with traditional, small-town, family values and I’m working to do the same for my children. They attend public school, my wife is a teacher, and I’m a small business owner,” Porch said. “As a result, I fully understand how state government can improve the lives of small-town, hard-working people.”
Porch was elected to the board of directors for Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative in 2012 and he was recently named vice-chairman of the board by his fellow board members. He has served on the board of directors for the Insurors of Tennessee and was awarded “Young Agent of the Year” in 2003. He has been deeply involved with United Way over the years by serving on the allocations committee, as well as being an annual radio host during the United Way Radio Auction. In 2010, he completed the Waverly Citizens Police Academy and received his hand gun carry permit in 2012. Porch is actively involved in Dixie League baseball and softball, having coached both of his children over the last several years.
“I was raised by parents who taught me from an early age to be very involved in the local community, whether that was helping with youth sports, spending time at church, working with local charities, or supporting our schools. That has given me a sense of duty to become involved in public service and do whatever I can to help better our communities,” Porch said. “I want to be your State Representative so I can take those skills to the legislature and do everything in my power to help the people of the 74th District.”
