CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Police Department (CPD) wishes to warn the public of the current ‘green dot card’ scam.
According to Officer Natalie Hall with the Clarksville Police Department, scammers claim to be a representative of a company and tell victims they have won a prize. To receive the prize, the individual must purchase green dot cards and call the representative back to give them the card numbers. Once the money is taken from the cards, the caller’s number is disconnected.
No legitimate company will call and request a down payment, purchase of green dot cards, or any other sort of pre-paid card, prior to awarding a prize. In most instances, the person contacted has not signed up for any prize give-away.
