NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Frantic 911 calls made immediately after a deadly shooting on Tennessee State University’s campus last week were released on Tuesday.

The shooting happened following a fight that escalated because of a dice game on campus around 11 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Cameron Selmon, 19, of Memphis died at the scene. Two female TSU students were wounded and a third grazed. They’re expected to recover.

“Can we please have police and ambulance over here to Tennessee State University,” a female caller asked before getting so upset she handed her phone to another person standing nearby.

“I was sitting by the girl’s cafeteria and I hear gunshots,” the male caller said. “I see three people right now lying down on the ground.”

The caller described two girls who were wounded, but said the third person on the ground appeared to be dead.

“I see one person shot one time, the next person I don’t know how many times they were shot,” he said. “The third person, he is over there dead.”

During the call the dispatcher instructs the man to find a towel, cloth or something to press against the gunshot wounds of the survivors to slow the bleeding.

The caller used a T-shirt.

“What if I just use my shirt,” the caller asked.

“Put firm pressure on the wound and don’t lift it up to look, tell them to keep the firm pressure on there to control the bleeding,” the dispatcher told the caller.

The caller and others continue to render aid until paramedics arrive, roughly 9 minutes into the call.

Dispatchers had difficulty in the beginning of the call locating exactly where on campus the victims were located because at first the callers were unable to give a specific location.

“Take a deep breath for me ok, because I can’t understand you, ok,” a dispatcher told one of the callers. “Just take a deep breath. We have paramedics and the police started. “

Metro police began walking patrols on campus Friday night and said they will continue as long as necessary.

TSU reports that more than $1 million on security enhancements were added prior to the deadly shooting on Thursday.

The on-campus shooting happened less than two weeks after a shooting near campus involving a party.

A Memphis man was also killed in that shooting.

A $6,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
