CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville mother has been arrested after her child choked on a cigarette while she was passed out from allegedly drinking too much.

According to an arrest warrant, a witness said she was walking past a home on Chapel Street and saw the door open. When she went inside, she saw a 7-month-old child choking while the child’s mother, 29-year-old Heather Tardif, was asleep on a bed.

The witness said she checked the baby’s mouth and realized the baby was choking on a cigarette. She said the child threw up as she tried to clear her mouth.

The woman told police she attempted to wake Tardif but was unsuccessful.

Tardif was still asleep when police arrived and only woke up when the officer pulled her off the bed. The officer said Tardif smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech.

An open blade kitchen knife was found on the ground near the bed and multiple empty beer cans were found in the bedroom.

Tardif reportedly told the officer she had “too much” to drink.

Tardif was taken into custody and charged with contributing to the dependency and neglect of a minor. Her bond was set at $500.
