CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing from the scene of a traffic stop and crash, then pointing a handgun at officers while they attempted to place him under arrest.
According to arrest warrants, police attempted to stop 22-year-old Darius Rahiem Rudolph on Hyman Street for the improper display of plates. He drove off toward Mary Street in Lincoln Homes and was just about to park when he struck the back of a trailer, according to police.
Police said Rudolph then exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot as the officer approached his vehicle. One of the officers attempted to taze him, but said his clothing was too thick.
An officer said he was able to tackle Rudolph and said the man pulled his hands underneath himself and refused orders to stop resisting.
Another officer said he was able to pull Rudolph’s right arm out from under him, at which point he brandished a black handgun and threw his right wrist back, pointing the gun at toward officers behind him.
The warrant says Rudolph continued to physically resist as he was taken into custody by attempting to break free, kicking patrol car doors, and stiffening his back while refusing to get in the back seat of the car.
A search of Rudolph revealed that he was in possession of eight grams of marijuana. The Glock 19 recovered from the scene had been stolen on November 14, 2015 in a vehicle burglary in Starksville, MS.
Rudolph also had a suspended license and had been previously arrested on Clarksville Public Housing property, meaning he was criminally trespassing at the time.
Rudolph was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault, unlawful carrying of a weapon, driving on a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident. His bond was set at $700,000.
