CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police are searching for Corey Chuncy Willis, 38, who had a fight with his girlfriend and reportedly ran away on foot after being wounded by a 12 gauge shotgun.

A news release from Lt. Steve Warren said the incident occurred Saturday around 11 p.m. in the 1200 block of Archwood Dr.

Several uninvolved witnesses said they saw a man with blood on his face, side, and arms running down the road.

Witnesses said the man told them he had been shot. Willis’ girlfriend, Shayla Ellis, and her brother reportedly walked up soon afterward. When sirens were heard in the distance, Willis and Ellis’ brother ran away from the scene in different directions.

Officers interviewed Shayla Ellis, who was found walking away from the area. Ellis told police Willis is her boyfriend, and that they had driven from Michigan to visit her sister on Archwood Drive. She they argued the whole trip and Willis had punched her in the mouth near Mallard Drive.

Ellis said she then scratched Willis on the face and ran from the vehicle because the key had broken off in the ignition.

An officer noted in his report that Ellis had a swollen lip and a missing tooth.

There was a second altercation between Willis and some friends and relatives of Ellis at an Archwood Drive residence. Willis was reportedly punched at least once in the face before being shot.

Several people were interviewed and detained at District One Criminal Investigations overnight.

“I intend to charge Justin Wiggins with Attempted Homicide and patrol officers will charge Willis with Domestic Assault,” Detective Ron Parrish said. “I also intend to charge four people for providing false information.”

Officers were unable to locate Willis, but they found two expended 12 gauge, #8 shot shotgun shells on the street.

Willis is described as a black male, 38, from Taylor, Michigan. He was last seen wearing orange shorts and no shirt. No photograph is available of Willis at this time.

“We have some information to suggest that Willis has left the state, and is enroute back to Michigan,” Lt. Steve Warren said. “If this is true, he’s left his car, his girlfriend, some of his blood, and his pending arrest warrant for Domestic Assault in Tennessee.”

Anyone with information about his location is asked to contact Detective Ron Parrish at 931-648-0656, ext. 5356, or call 911.
