CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville police are investigating two shootings that occurred in Clarksville Tuesday night and have arrested one person who they believe is linked to one of the shootings.

Officers arrested Ojawaine Joemese Marbury in a gray GMC Yukon on Lafayette Road Wednesday at 5:48 p.m. The vehicle had bullet holes on the driver’s side and Marbury was known to not have a valid driver license at the time of the stop, according to Lt. Steve Warren.

Marbury was charged with Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia, Operator License Required, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Theft of Property, and Convicted Felon In Possession of a Firearm. The theft charge stemmed from a stolen, loaded nine millimeter pistol. All of the contraband was found in a hidden compartment within reach of the driver.

Charges against Marbury are pending for his involvement in the shooting incident on Peachers Mill Road on Tuesday night.

“Officers and detectives worked diligently throughout the day yesterday to build the case, which was hampered by a lack of cooperation from the involved parties. In spite of the refusal of numerous people to provide information, they developed several leads that lead to this arrest,” Warren said in a news release.

The investigation is ongoing.

“This just another example of the excellent work our officers do to aggressively seek out the violent criminals in our community,” Clarksville Police Chief Al Ansley said.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Several residents in the Bel Aire Park area reported hearing numerous gunshots and vehicles leaving the area at high speed shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers located several bullet casings near a store on the 800 block of Peachers Mill Road and interviewed people in the area. A pistol was also found nearby.

A short time later, Gateway Hospital reported a patient with a gunshot wound at the emergency room. That individual was interviewed by a detective after being treated and released from the hospital, but he refused to cooperate and provided little information.

Police believe from the initial investigation that two groups of people encountered each other in the store parking lot and exchanged gunfire. None of the people involved in the incident called police and all of the 911 calls came from nearby residents.

At 10:58 p.m. another person with gunshot wounds was reported on Ernest Shelton Drive. Officers located a silver Honda Accord with several bullet holes at that location, but a relative of the victim had reportedly already placed him in another car to take him to Gateway Emergency Room.

The victim was life-flighted to Vanderbilt from Gateway Hospital. When interviewed by police, he claimed that he didn’t know who shot him or why he was shot. The man had several bullet wounds, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say there is some evidence to suggest that at least one more person may have been injured, but that individual’s location and condition are unknown.

Detectives said the Peachers Mill shooting was gang-related.

“These kinds of investigations are hampered by witnesses and alleged victims alike who withhold information and refuse to cooperate with police,” Lt. Warren said.
