Update, 5:53 p.m.: After extensive negotiations with CPD’s crisis negotiators, the suspect, 61-year-old Keith L. Smith, surrendered to police.
The incident began over four hours earlier, when Clarksville Police responded to an unwanted guest in one of the rooms. When officers approached, knocked on the door, and announced that police were present, Smith shot through the door with a firearm, Beaubien said. No one was injured. At 5:43 p.m., Smith surrendered to police.
Smith has been charged with aggravated assault and is now being transported to Tennova to be medically cleared before transferring to the Montgomery County Jail, according to CPD spokesperson Scott Beaubien. No other information has been made available.
Update, 3 p.m.: Some of the stores at Governor’s Square Mall near the hotel have decided to close as a precaution.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Police have set up a perimeter around Country Inn & Suites at 3057 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. in response to a suspect barricaded in one of the rooms.
At about 1:16 p.m., police received a 911 call about an unwanted guest in one of the rooms, according to a news release from CPD spokesman Officer Scott Beaubien.
The unwanted guest became a barricaded suspect inside the room, and Crisis Negotiators are attempting to negotiate with him, Beaubien said. Adjacent rooms have been evacuated.
