CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- The sun was shining Saturday, Feb. 22 but the water was frigid as several brave souls jumped in an icy swimming pool for a good cause.

The Freezin for a Reason Polar Plunge,  was held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Austin Peay State University’s Foy Fitness and Recreation Center pool and supported Special Olympics Tennessee athletes.

Polar Plunge participants made a minimum pledge of $50, $30 for students, and each donor received the official long-sleeved Plunge T-shirt, lunch and bragging rights.

The event raised approximately $10,000, which was their goal,  for the Special Olympics.

The winner- The Splashin Dragons-  got to plunge first and the Clarksville Police Department, who raised $3,800 for Special Olympics in two Tip-A-Cop events in Clarksville, splashed last.

Teams of APSU students, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies and supporters plunged to applause and screams.
