Clarksville Parks & Recreation's first Polar Bear Plunge raised funds to pay for swimming lessons for children in the community who can't afford them.
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Parks & Recreation held a Polar Bear Plunge with around 75 people showing up on Saturday to take a little dip in the Swan Lake Pool.
“This is our first Polar Bear Plunge, and all of the proceeds are going back into the city to provide free swim lessons for the children who cannot afford it in our community,” said Kimberly Gilbert, Aquatics Superintendent with Clarksville Parks & Recreation.

Members of the Clarksville City Council who also took the plunge included Brian Zacharias, Dajuan Little, Travis Holleman, Karen Reynolds and Stacey Streetman.
“It was for a good cause, I grew up taking swimming lessons, and my son took lessons, so I think they are important to support in our community, and it was very refreshing,” Councilwoman Karen Reynolds said.
