CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Downtown Market is in need of pledges of support from community members as a part of the 5th Annual “I Love My Farmers Market Celebration™” hosted by American Farmland Trust for their No Farms No Food® Campaign.
The summer long event is being done in an effort to have consumers purchase more goods from family farmers. One pledge equals a commitment to spend $10 at the Clarksville Downtown Market for one week. Money is not required at the time of pledging; it only states a positive intention to visit the market.
“The I Love My Farmers Market Celebration is about celebrating the unique qualities of farmers markets throughout the nation and the important role that these markets play in keeping family farmers on the land,” said American Farmland Trust Vice President of External Affairs, Susan Sink.
Nationally, the food and farming system contributes nearly $1 trillion dollars to our national economy, while we have been losing nearly one million acres of farmland every year, according to the most recent National Resources Inventory.
As the market receives more pledges, it gets closer to claiming the title of number one market in the country.
The Clarksville Downtown Market, located in Public Square, is open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Saturday.
Citizens can make their pledges at www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org before the contest closes at midnight EST September 9, 2013.
