CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Local animal advocates will host a Pit Bull Awareness Day event Sunday, Nov. 15 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Pet Food Center in Clarksville.

This is a reschedule of the Oct. 25 event that was cancelled due to weather.

The event aims to bring awareness to misconceptions surrounding bully breeds. All proceeds from the event will provide free or greatly reduced cost spay/neuter surgeries to owners of bully breeds and mixes in an effort to reduce euthanasia and increase adoptions of pit bulls in the Clarksville-Montgomery Co. area.

Dogs and their owners can enter the “Dress Your Bully” Contest (donation required). The winner will see their dog’s face on two educational billboards in Clarksville. Categories include “Best Kisser”, “Wild Child”, etc.

There will also be live music from Backroad Brigade, a silent auction, professional photography, a “Kiss-A-Bull” kissing booth, vendors, and adoptable pit bulls and mixes on site.

The Pet Food Center is located at 2243 Lowes Drive.

The Humane Society of Clarksville – Montgomery County will offer greatly reduced pricing for spay-neuter vouchers for pit bulls and other close bully mixes during the event between from 1-4:30 p.m. while supplies last.

The cost for low income families with proof of current public assistance (i.e. WIC, food stamps, SSD, etc.) is just $15 per pit bull or bully mix. For all other income levels, the cost is $45. A total of 50 vouchers will be distributed during the event with a limit of 2 vouchers available per family at these prices.

Additionally, the Humane Society will MATCH up to $2,500 of all monies raised at the event from all sources.

Admission is free. Food will be available for purchase, and live music will be provided by Backroad Brigade. Contest categories will include friendliest, best in show, party animal, best kisser, and best costume. Adoptable pit bulls & mixes will be available from area rescue groups.
