CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Over 2,000 hand painted tiles will be on display at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library as part of the Pillars of Hope project. The memorial exhibit will be free to visit from September 4 – 23 during business hours.
Residents completed the tiles as part of the Pillars of Hope: Remembering our Heroes through Art and Reflection since late 2012. The project is dedicated to the memory of the September 11th attacks.
The Pillars of Hope was created through a multi-organization partnership. Groups included: Volunteer Clarksville, Hands on Nashville, Ken Shipley, retired APSU Ceramics Professor, Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council.
“The Pillars of Hope offers our community a unique and special way to find comfort and hope in each commemorative tile that is placed on the pillars, said Rita Arancibia, Arts for Hearts founder. “Each one represents a citizen paying tribute to those who serve.”
This year’s visitors might notice some new tiles that have been added to the Pillars. The tiles were painted during the September 2018 Arts for Hearts “Honoring our Heroes through Art” event held at the Downtown Commons.
