CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Excitement was in the air Saturday at the Pass & Go event with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) and Wyatt Johnson Automotive.

It was especially exciting for Madison Wilson, a recent graduate of West Creek High School, who will be driving off with a new car. Wilson was one of hundreds of students who took the Advancement Placement (AP) exams and qualified for a chance at a key to open the door of a Hyundai Accent at Wyatt Johnson.

Wilson will actually have her choice of the Hyundai, a Toyota Yaris or KIA Rio. Wilson, who doesn’t own a car, said she was shocked and it was very exciting to win the car. Wilson added that she has participated in Pass & Go for the past three years and has never won a prize. Other prizes given away in drawings Saturday included laptop computers, Domino’s Pizza, who also provided pizza for the event, and gas cards from Beach Oil.

Figures show that 1,179 students took part in the AP classes, completing 1,187 exams with 602 of the students getting proficiency scores on 882 exams. The pass rate for CMCSS students is 49% which is more than double the national pass rate for 2015-16 which is around 22%. Wyatt Johnson was joined by the school system and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation in sponsoring Pass & Go.

Bill Powers, General Manager/Managing Partner of Wyatt Johnson talked about the annual event. “Pass & Go gets bigger every year, and when I say bigger, I’m speaking in terms of the number of students. The amount of people that are taking Advancement Placement tests and studying hard and passing them has grown. We hope that is in part due to the emphasis that we put on education with the education foundation and the other local sponsors,” said Powers.
