CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Housing Authority held a Strong Father’s and Families free event Friday at the Summit Heights Community Basketball courts with nearby residents taking part in the activities.
Dozens of families turned out to enjoy food trucks, music, games, contests, and more. Local non-profit organizations and support groups were also on hand. Officers from the Clarksville Police Department joined in the community event.
Shanale Allen, Resident Services Coordinator for the local housing authority talked about Strong Father’s and Families.
“Today we are celebrating the HUD (Housing and Urban Development) Strong Families Program,” Allen said. “This is a HUD project and what they do around the nation at every housing authority. They ask us to do these events, and this one is to kick-off Father’s Day.”
Allen added that the event actually kicks-off their summer events and summer camp which will run from June 22 through July 22. The camp offers enrichment programs, art classes, music classes, writing classes and more.
“Even though we are in this COVID-19 situation, it gives kids a place where they can express themselves with all of those enrichment programs,” Allen said. “HUD is looking at health, economics, and empowerment, and this is a way to bring the community together.”
COVID-19 precautions were practiced at the event.
