CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The 29th Annual American Cancer Society’s Love Lights a Tree was held Sunday with the announcement of Mike Robinson named as the 2018 Honorary Chairperson for this year’s campaign. Robinson is a beloved employee of 5-Star Media Group who has been personally dealing with cancer.
“It’s definitely a surprise for me and a welcome surprise. I just want to be more a part of this cancer involved community and I think this is a great place to start. I really want to be able to go out and use my story and use what I’m going through to help other people,” said Robinson.
Robinson was recognized for his devotion to his family, friends, church, and community along with his many fundraising events promoting Clarksville Academy. The front lobby of Tennova Healthcare, where the announcement was made, was filled Sunday with well-wishers for the announcement of Robinson.
Each year nominations are accepted for the honorary chairperson of Love Lights a Tree and a person who has had cancer or is being treated for cancer from Clarksville-Montgomery County is chosen from those nominations. The identity of the person is kept secret until the tree lighting event.
Love Lights a Tree is a major local fundraising effort to support the American Cancer Society and cancer research. The lighted tree can be found on the lawn of Tennova Healthcare.
Funds are raised by offering the opportunity for individuals to purchase lights in honor of, or in memory of, someone who is affected by cancer. Donations are $5 per light or $100 for a full strand and are still being accepted.
