Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Along with aircraft, excitement was also in the air at Campbell Army Airfield Tuesday as 176 soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade stepped off the plane after their nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.
The “Task Force Destiny” soldiers were met by hundreds of family members, friends and comrades with cheers and applause as they marched into the hangar for the Welcome Home Ceremony. Deputy Commanding General of the 101st, Brigadier General Richard Johnson, who just recently returned from Afghanistan greeted the troops.
“I just want to tell everybody here, you all know what you did, but I want to remind your families how remarkable your achievements were on your deployment. It truly was an amazing feat by the entire Combat Aviation Brigade. Every soldier in the formation went above and beyond to make that happen,” said Johnson.
Two more flights of soldiers are scheduled to return home next week.
