Clarksville, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The 5th Annual Run for C.O.P.S. was held Saturday at the Clarksville Police Department with more than 325 runners and walkers turning out to help further positive relationships between police department members and the community they serve.

Cpt. Scott Thornton with the Clarksville Police Department who helps organize the 5K run/walk each year talked about the event. “This benefits the C.O.P.S., Concerns for Police Survivors organization. The money raised here today will be used to benefit the families of law enforcement personnel killed in the line of duty,” said Thornton.

This year’s Run for C.O.P.S. in Clarksville had the largest participation in the events five year history and raised around $7,500.

Participants wore a runner/walker bib with the name in honor of or in memory of a law enforcement officer for the upcoming National Police Week which is May 12-19. The local Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be held Friday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clarksville Poloce Department.

This year Montgomery County Animal Care & Control were on hand with 11 dogs that are up for adoption. A walker was allowed to take one of the dogs they had chosen with them to walk part or all of the course.

Having the adoptable dogs at the event raises awareness of the number of dogs who are in need of forever homes in Montgomery County, and it was also hoped that the dogs would be able to find a home with one of the runners or walkers or from someone else attending the event.
