Montgomery County, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) Montgomery County officials, along with close to 200 citizens, gathered together Wednesday, June 11, to celebrate the opening of the old Fredonia School as the new Fredonia Community Center.

The school was built in 1926 and has a long history of service to the community and with extensive renovation now serves as the home of Friends of Fredonia Park and is part of the Montgomery County Parks & Recreation Department.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett called the center another jewel in our park system.  “It’s something that I think that right after I got elected they started talking to be about it.  We worked it and here we are today, it’s come to fruition.  We’ve got a second phase where we’re going to put a walking trail in and a playground.  It’s just a great addition to the Fredonia Community,” said Durrett.

The Fredonia Community Center is just off Highway 12 in Montgomery County at 4650 Old Ashland City Road South and is available for rental for events and activities offering a number of amenities.
