CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Over 520 runners and walkers turned out on a cold Thanksgiving morning to show their support for Manna Cafe Ministries and their annual Pass the Turkey 5K run. With the support of the Clarksville Running Club (CRC), the event raised $3,535 in cash for Manna Cafe. Donations of food, coats and other winter clothing were also collected at the run held in the parking lot of Governors Square Mall.

One brave soul actually donned a turkey costume and took off a couple of minutes before the start of the race, hence the name Pass the Turkey 5K. The run and walk was not a competitive event and there were no bibs or timing chips.

The Clarksville Running Club is a nonprofit organization that promotes running throughout the community. The group also supports a number of other area nonprofit organizations with their events throughout the year. According to CRC President Matt Heiser this was the eighth year for the event and the fifth year that they have hosted the 5K in support of Manna Cafe.

Kenny York, founder of Manna Cafe praised the Clarksville Running Club for their efforts with the event. “It’s an awesome day and we look forward to it every year. The running community has been supportive of Manna for a long time. It’s a great event and it gets bigger and better every year,” York said.
