CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Singer Lee Greenwood presented the keys to a new fully adapted home to wounded veteran CW3 (Ret) Scott Schroeder and his family Sunday.

The ceremony was part of the Helping a Hero Program.

Schroeder was wounded during his deployment to Afghanistan in 2010 after his vehicle struck a pressure plate that detonated an IED. The explosion resulted in the amputation of both legs above the knee and a severely mangled right arm. To date, Schroeder has had more than 30 surgeries to salvage his arm and stabilize his amputated legs.

Throughout his recovery, Schroeder focused on returning to Tennessee and building a home where he could regain his independence. With financial assistance from Helping a Hero, building partners Blackpatch Development and Orgain Building Supply Co., and in-kind donations of material and labor, a beautiful new accessible home is today a reality for Schroeder, wife Laura, and son Zach.
