CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – New Orleans came to Clarksville over the weekend as Loaves & Fishes took over downtown for their annual Louisiana Saturday Night Festival. The event grew this year as it expanded from the Loaves & Fishes kitchen at the First Presbyterian Church Activities & Outreach Center on Foster Street to Downtown Commons.
There was still dining in or carry-out at the Loaves & Fishes kitchen, but there was also much more at the Downtown Commons. The Roux du Bayou Cajun Band provided live music, there were craft vendors, a kids zone, games, inflatables, and a gumbo contest featuring teams who entered to make gumbo and offer samples to the public for tasting.
Loaves & Fishes has served the Clarksville-Montgomery County community for more than 35 years and currently provides 200 hot meals each day Monday-Saturday for those who are hungry, and a bagged meal on Sunday known as Blessing Bags. Loaves & Fishes also distributes food to many other agencies in the community to help feed the hungry.
The organization is also moving forward with their Capital Campaign as they build and plan to open a new and expanded facility at Crossland Avenue near Greenwood Avenue for those in need.
The next event for Loaves & Fishes is a dinner theater fundraiser, Murder in the Air set in the 1940’s on November 2 at the Riverview Inn.
