Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It may be close to Halloween but there were no tricks, just treats, for family and friends as 51 soldiers with the 2-44 Air Defense Artillery Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) returned from a six-month deployment in Iraq.
Specialist Jones Alexander was seeing his son Theodore for the very first time and said his wife had been sending him photos. “It’s amazing, I did not think he was that little when I first saw him. I hold him and I’m six-six, he’s barely an eighth of my height,” Alexander said.
The soldiers spent the last six months at Al Asad Air Base performing counter-rocket, artillery and mortar intercept operations to defend and defeat indirect fire threats.
The air base has been a critical station for combat search and rescue, medevac and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations in the fight against ISIS.
