Fort Campbell, KY (CLARKSVILLENOW) Hangar 3 at Campbell Army Airfield was filled with family, friends and comrades Thursday as 314 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) “Rakkasans” were welcomed back after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.
Specialist Joshua Tillman was met by his mother who had been in town since Saturday waiting for her son to come home. Kari Jo Stefanski is from Michigan and they both talked about coming home from deployment. “It’s amazing, it feels good,” said Tillman. “I love him to pieces, it’s so good to have him in my arms,” Stefanski said.
Speaking to the crowd, Deputy Commanding General for Support of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Brigadier General Todd Royar said this about the returning soldiers. “Over the past nine months, they have done everything to standard, they have succeeded in their mission and they have brought credit to this great division, our great Army, our great nation and to you as families,” said Royar.
Task Force Rakkasan was in Afghanistan for a train, advise and assist mission to help build the capabilities of the Afghan Army, police and to strengthen Afghanistan’s National Defense and Security Forces.
