CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Members of Loaves & Fishes were at the construction site of their new facility off Crossland Ave. Thursday as flatbed semi trucks began arriving with the new Loaves & Fishes building.
“We’re very excited about what’s happening today at our site today,” said Dr. Rita Burnett, Loaves & Fishes executive director. “We have four trucks coming in, and there are two here right now, bringing our building. They’re going to off-load that, maybe next week we’ll get our concrete in. The week after we’ll start building up that building getting it ready for winter construction,” said Burnett.
She added they hope to have a soft opening in the fall of 2020 where donors and stakeholders will tour the facility. The organizations plans to start serving clients from the facility in January 2021.
Loaves & Fishes serves an average of 180-200 people every day for lunch at their current building at 215 Foster Street inside the First Presbyterian Church Activities and Outreach Center. Burnett said having the new facility will help them serve even more people in need. They’ll offer multipurpose activities, clients will have more room for fellowship, and developing social skills that will help them move forward.
